Welcome to the Counseling Corner!

Seventh Ward Elementary's School Counseling Program is dedicated to the holistic development of ALL students, providing them with necessary tools and resources for positive growth in all areas of life.  With the help of teachers and administrators, our school counseling program provides a caring atmosphere to support the social-emotional, academic, and career growth of your students.  Throughout the school year, I will provide individual, group, and classroom counseling for your children.

This year in counseling class, I’ll be teaching your children from the Second Step social-emotional curriculum.  This curriculum teaches your child skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.  In our first unit, we’ll be covering skills for learning, which includes how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task, and be assertive when asking for help with schoolwork.

Throughout the school year, I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child.  You can email me (leigh.potts@lpsb.org) or call the office at 225-665-5815.  Students are always free to contact me by writing a note and putting it in my mailbox outside my office door.
